Last month, around 1 crore taka VAT has been collected every day through Electronics Fiscal Devices (EFDs). This information was given by Abdul Mannan Sikder, Member (VAT Implementation) of the National Board of Revenue (NRB) at a conference held on Thursday (May 5) at the conference room on the occasion of lottery draw of EFD invoices.
In response to a question, he said, "We do not think that global technology companies like Facebook, Google or Amazon can evade VAT. We don't even think that they are evading VAT in Bangladesh. However, if we think that these internationally renowned companies are evading VAT, then we will conduct an audit against them.
This 16th EFD lottery draw was organized on the basis of invoices from 1st to 30th of April.
It was informed at the function that goods and services worth Tk. 405 crores 35 lakhs 77 thousands were sold through EFD machines in the month of April for collection of value added tax or VAT. Against the sell, the National Board of Revenue (NBR) has collected VAT of 29 crore 31 lakh 74 thousand taka.
As per this calculation, the Board of Revenue received VAT of more than Tk 97 lakh 72 thousand per day in April through EFD from the business establishments of the country.
The first lottery draw for EFD invoices was held on February 5, 2021. So far, NBR has installed EFDs in 4,578 businesses.
Member of National Board of Revenue (VAT Policy) Zakia Sultana, Member (Customs Policy) Masud Sadiq and other senior officials were present on the occasion.
